Spiteful as a woman, but not so nervous,

And dying to say something unanswerable.

Our cat Dexter got hit by a car and died last weekend. I wrote about it here and here. Both entries are mostly pictures, and there are others in a set here.

I've managed to make it past the bursting-into-tears-randomly-throughout-the-day stage, which was a bit inconvenient at work. Being at home still kind of sucks though because just about everything reminds me of him.

I started writing in a paper journal. Well, my notebook that I already had, because I was inspired by this account of how to go about journaling (to do lists? notes? goals? I already do all that in my notebook!). So I've written twice in the morning so far.

I used to write here, and I miss it, but the problem is that when I write here I think what I'm writing too much and I'm too aware of an audience of people reading. Which is totally silly, because by now there probably aren't too many people still paying attention to whether I update or not.

I've misplaced by netbook power cord somewhere. It's most likely that I left it in one of my discussion sections. I retraced my steps and went back to all the discussion rooms to look around, but it was a rushed looking around because it was in between other classes and I didn't want to interrupt other classes, even if class wasn't actually going on yet. Each of the rooms has a big cabinet type desk were the computers are, and potentially someone just stuck it in a drawer in there to get it out of the way of the desk. I'm holding off on ordering another cord until I get back there this week for discussion and can search around thoroughly. There are cords available on Amazon, and cheap cords, but it's one of those items with lots of bad reviews due to people getting sent the wrong item or having the item break on them early on. So hopefully I can find *my cord*. It's one of those items that is generally not useful to anyone but me.

There aren't a whole lot of things more annoying than someone who wants to have an email conversation about an item that you are giving away for free on craigslist.

I went to the gym today, for the first time in I-don't-even-want-to-think-about-how-long. It was gloriously empty. Too bad that won't last long.

Even though it felt like I barely did anything, I managed to make myself feel a bit nauseous... so that probably doesn't bode well for my soreness over the next few days. Oh well. Not much that I can do at this point except be sore, then keep up with working out so I don't have to go through it again.

I hurt my foot today. I was walking around the house this morning, and everything seemed fine. But then when I got to campus and was walking to lab, my foot started to hurt.

Then I came to lab and sat down and after a bit of time it felt fine, then I walked again and it started to hurt, repeat repeat repeat.

So I went over to the student health center to see about getting an appointment, and they managed to slip me in immediately. But the problem was that there was a lot of sitting around prior to the appointment and I thought that when the doctor started poking and prodding my foot it would hurt again (giving him valuable hurt foot location of the pain info) but that didn't really happen.

He recommended a shoe insert, and I happen to already own a pair of the brand he recommended (bought them to put in my hiking boots)... so it's just a matter of moving those inserts around to whatever shoe I'm wearing.

So I kind of felt silly about how there wasn't really any foot pain to speak up during the exam, and I'm totally not one of those people who goes to the doctor frivolously, but I felt like it looked that way.

And of course the pain started up again as I walked back from the student health center to lab.

Distressing phone update.

It's been searching for signal all day today... and apparently Josh called and texted me repeatedly today and it didn't go through at all.

I did receive a call from Josh yesterday, so it was okay at that point. The replacement glass should arrive tomorrow.

It's time for me to renew my parking permit for next semester, and I'm having second thoughts. This parking spot is so convenient.. SO CONVENIENT. But it costs $70 a month. At the start of last semester when I paid it, I logically understood that I was paying $70 a month and that it was a lot, but it still felt like a one time thing and so it didn't sting that much. This time, I JUST PAID it a few months ago and now I have to pay it again and I am realizing that $70 a month is a whole lot of money relative to my budget. More than I set aside each month for taking care of my car... so it would wind up coming out of our savings.

Previously, I parked in a different garage, much farther away. It was something like $33 a month because I qualified for a different kind of permit due to my fellowship. At that time, my current garage would have been just as cheap, but I couldn't get into it because there was a waiting list for that kind of permit.

Now, ugh... All the places to park off campus and either walk or ride the shuttle are north of campus, which means that I have to drive past campus to get to them. More driving, then more walking. Not that I necessarily mind the walking in and of itself, but the time it adds to each day gets old after a while.

I got a haircut today. I did something that I haven't done in a very long time, which is I asked her to only cut a minimal amount of length. Usually I go way too long between haircuts, and my hair gets long but has an excessive amount of split ends and so when I finally go to get it cut I am completely sick of long hair and get a drastic amount of length cut off.

I took some "before" pictures this morning and I'll try to get some more when I get home. But I think mostly the biggest difference right now is that it was styled by someone with WAY more hair-styling skills that I will ever have.

bullet points

1. Downloaded this program in the hopes that it will reduce all the time I waste doing things that aren't important.

2. I have a big stack of papers to grade.. I've made some progress, but not nearly as much as I should have this weekend.

3. Today is a rare Monday with no discussion sections. There are three more after this, which also means three more weeks of classes.

4. Okay, break over.

I'm finally getting around to posting pictures from Colorado
