And dying to say something unanswerable.

more on name changing

I'm still waiting for my new drivers license, which means that I am still in this limbo halfway name change state. I don't currently have my marriage license in my possession because I had to send it with my passport renewal application. And I OBVIOUSLY should have made a copy, and I didn't, because the the passport renewal had to be mailed that exact day because the fee was about to go up (from $75 to $110) and we drove to the main post office to get it there before they closed.

So my credit cards, changed, but my bank accounts, not changed. There's some stuff I could maybe do with just my ss card (which has arrived), but I'm dragging my feet and checking the mail every day expecting to see my new drivers license.

Josh has been out of town on a business trip all week. At first the boredom was kind of awesome because I got a lot of stuff done... and I've been fairly productive at work due to having no good reason to leave before 8pm... but the last couple of days it has gotten annoying and I will be very happy to have him back.

Dexter will be too.. the last few days he has alternated between being unusually affectionate and tearing through the house on a hyper kitty rampage.

Ahh, crap. Now it looks like his flight might get canceled and he's already missed his connection in Chicago. Crap crap crap.

I've been using steno notebooks (like this) for a while now. But since I got an iphone, the rate at which I use the notebook has slowed considerably. This results in the pages getting tattered and torn because I'm not turning to fresh pages often enough. So I figured that the solution was to pay more for a nicer notebook that would be more durable. And I went out and found one... but it was a little early because I still have a third of my current notebook left. So I am purposefully using the notebook more so that I can start using the nicer one, and this defeats the whole purpose of why I was getting a nicer one in the first place.

The week before we got married, we drove up to the Hill Country and visited a few wineries with Vinod and Liz. Also, apparently the shirt I wore that day was the same shirt I changed into after the wedding ceremony.

The numbering on the pictures came back around, again, which means that I have taken over 20,000 pictures with my SLR.

Finally caught up with uploading pictures.

I took very very few pictures at our wedding, which makes me really sad, and most of the pictures of the ceremony came out blurry because I asked one of my friends to use my camera but I rushed to set it up at the last moment and didn't do it right.

More pictures are here.

Today I made a list of all the places I have to contact to change my name. I can't really get started until the marriage certificate comes in the mail... but at least now I have... a list.

This is a pretty good one too. They had just finished discussing with me the experience of marrying into the Robles family.

I think this is my favorite picture that I took at Jeannine's wedding (in April).

We cannot talk about flowers without talking about theme because everything must compliment the theme of your wedding. This would include flowers, linen, food, invitations, number of guests - everything. If everything does not complement, your event becomes jumbled and non-cohesive. You also must look at your budget realistically. A black tie wedding with heavy-upgraded linens, 5 course meal, and elaborate flower arrangements for 200 people - is not going to work with a 30K budget - at least not in the DC/Baltimore area. Also, you must realize that you do not have to have a black tie wedding to have something extremely nice and elegant. Any themed wedding can be very nice and elegant - as long as it’s cohesive from beginning to end.

I guess my theme is going to have to be:

"jumbled and non-cohesive"

Once upon a time, we had a subscription to this CSA. Then we stopped, but I was still on their mailing list and got periodic updates on what was going on with the farm and what kind of vegetables went into the boxes each week. For a while the membership was full, but then they opened it up again for new members. They also changed their policies so that you could postpone or change a pickup day or location as long as you gave 48 hours notice (this was a huge factor in why we stopped... it just sucked when we'd want to go on vacation and that would be the week we were picking up a box and we'd either pick it up and then not have time to use it... or not be able to pick it up at all).

Anyway, so a few weeks ago I broached the topic of subscribing again with Josh and he was on board, so I signed up. And today I pick up my first box!

camping trip

A couple of weeks ago, we went camping at Big Bend National Park. Here are the pictures. There were a couple of days there where the air was really clear, then the last few days it returned to its usual haziness.

The first three nights we stayed in the Chisos Basin and the last two nights we move to the Rio Grande Village Campground. The former was ridiculously colder than the latter.. and we should have moved earlier, but we were being given bad information. Well, technically correct info -- the lows at the Rio Grande are lower than the lows in the Basin.. but since the daytime temps of the Basin are lower, and the sun goes down earlier because it is surrounded by mountains... it gets uncomfortably cold much earlier. Not a good situation for camping. By the time it got cold at Rio Grande, we were safely ensconced in our tents.

Anyway, lesson learned. If it's winter, don't camp in the Chisos Basin.
